Christophe Pantillon,

Christophe Pantillon was born in Neuchâtel into a family of musicians of Swiss and American origin. He began his cello studies with J.-P. Guy in his hometown and with Elena Botez in Bern, before continuing his studies with Heinrich Schiff at the Basel Academy of Music.

He then completed his training with Valentin Erben (Alban Berg Quartet) at the Hochschule für Musik in Vienna and with Ralph Kirshbaum at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. He also studied with Mischa Maisky in Siena.

Christophe Pantillon has been involved in chamber music from an early age, particularly with his brothers in the “Trio Pantillon”. Living in Vienna since 1992, he founded the Aron Quartet in 1998, quartet in residence at the Arnold Schönberg Center. He is also a member of various ensembles and regularly performs as a violin/cello duo with his wife Klara Flieder.

Christophe Pantillon has recorded some twenty chamber music CDs, several of which have won international awards. En 2013, « Paroles de violoncelle » (Gramola) avec des œuvres françaises pour violoncelle seul a reçu des critiques très élogieuses dans de nombreuses revues spécialisées.

He has performed as a soloist or as a member of various chamber music ensembles in Vienna (Musikverein, Konzerthaus), Salzburg (Mozarteum), New York (Carnegie Hall), London (Wigmore Hall), Washington (Library of Congress), Paris (Opéra Bastille), Tokyo (Casals Hall, Oji Hall), Moscow (Tchaikovsky Conservatory), Buenos Aires (Teatro Colon), Madrid (Teatro Real), Zurich (Tonhalle), Prague, Amsterdam, Warsaw, St. Petersburg, Helsinki, among others, as well as at renowned festivals.

Christophe Pantillon has given courses in the USA (Yale Summer School), Switzerland, France (Académie d’été de Nice), Romania, Israel and Austria (Sommerakademie Lilienfeld). He teaches cello at the City of Vienna Music Schools. Since 2019, he has held a lectureship at the Vienna University of Music mdw.
